Overview:

More and more laws have been passed that protect applicants for employment. The ADA restricts what questions you can ask, the Fair Credit Reporting Act has restrictions on what can be asked and other requirements. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the courts are fighting over whether employers can disqualify those with criminal backgrounds.

And, every human resource professional knows that conducting background checks are just plain difficult -- most companies won't give out any information. How do you handle these problems and get the best information to hire the best employee?

Why should you attend: Recruiting so that you hire the best has become increasingly difficult. We all know, however, how important it is to get the best employee you can if nothing else to avoid termination. Studies have shown that individuals who are not hired are far less likely to file lawsuits than individuals who are later terminated.

Of course, it would be nice to have a crystal ball so that you can avoid hiring those who are likely to be terminated. Turnover in and of itself is expensive. How do you recruit effectively and legally?
