James K. Phelps, J.D., ACFRE, is a graduate of the University of Oregon and the University of Oregon School of Law. Phelps has 24 years of nonprofit development experience in a variety of local nonprofits and affiliate of national organizations including serving as the Development Director of the ACLU of Oregon for six years. Phelps started his own consulting business, JKP Fundraising LLC in 2011 providing comprehensive development services to nonprofits. As part of his business, Phelps is an Associate with the Nonprofit Association of Oregon serving as an interim development director when called upon including his current assignment as the Director of Development at Mittleman Jewish Community Center and Portland Jewish Academy. Phelps has presented three years at the Association of Fundraising Professionals International Conference on Fundraising. Phelps is President of the Board of Directors of Nonprofit Network Southwest Washington. Phelps is a past President of the Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). He has served on the AFP Diversity and Inclusion Committee since 1999. Phelps acquired his Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2002 and completed his certification as an Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) in 2011 becoming the 93rd person in the world to have acquired that designation.
