Overview:

Every situation is different so there are no definite lines as to what to do and what not to do that will work in every situation and conversation. But you can have a process that can allow you to meet your obligations to involved parties and navigate these conversations confidently.

This training session will help you develop a process to handle ADA requests respectfully, efficiently, discretely and expeditiously.

Why should you attend: Do too little and you will have trouble, but how much is enough? Throw in an uncooperative employee, a nosy manager, and a complicated impairment and you can actually create trouble beyond your wildest dreams that a simple 10 minute structured conversation may have easily averted. But how do you even start the conversation? Yes, getting started can be difficult but once begun, the conversation also needs to keep going until a resolution is determined. As if this wasn’t a fine enough line to navigate, the regs. state that employers should not make accommodation conversations any more difficult than warranted, but your attorney wants you to keep documentation.

Areas Covered in the Session:
  • How the ADA Amendments Act changed how HR handles reasonable accommodation requests.
  • How much medical information should you gather, if any?
  • What about mental impairments that are hard to get a handle on
  • When an impairment can be a safety threat
  • How much constitutes "unreasonable",
  • When is your accommodation not enough
  • Documenting the discussion
  • Following up on accommodations
  • What you can do if an employee won't cooperate
  • Handling impairments that are increasing in severity

  • Managers
  • Branch Managers
